Virtual Apple ][ now runs on two emulators. While Windows is still required for the Apple IIgs programs, the Apple II Programs now run on any platform using a Java based Emulator. This web site currently uses both an ActiveX application for the Apple IIgs emulator and a Java based Apple ][ emulator to automatically download and play most Apple 2 and Apple IIgs disk images online. This site is completely spyware free and usage of the emulator is completely free! Documentation and actual disk images are available for download from the site.

Virtual Apple ][ is a site which will take you back to the 1980's through its collection of more than 1400 game disks online. Play and enjoy old Apple ][ (Apple2) and Apple IIgs games and other disks through your Internet web browser. You will find games like Oregon Trail and Number Munchers which many of you played as kids, as well as games like Tetris, Battle Chess, Leisure Suit Larry, Choplifter, Archon II and Kings Quest.

All of the games in this archive fit into one of three categories; Freeware, Abandon Ware, or Public Domain. While there are currently over 1400 disk images archived on the web site, we still are adding more all the time..

We are currently in the process of collecting specific program documentation and box cover images as well as any other information about the games. If you would like to contribute items to the database such as game descriptions, soft docs, manuals, hints, articles, or pictures then post them to out support board or contact us, and we'll put them online.

Offline Play

All of the games on the Virtual Apple ][ website are playable offline as well as online. You can download the disk images to your favorite game right from our website, fire up an emulator on your machine and play them right there on your local PC or Mac.

If you dont want to play offline, and have a Mac with Mac OS X, then you can use the ActiveGS Emulator starting up boot camp and running Windows XP.

If you dont want to do it this way, then you can run the programs by downloading the disks and Sheepy's Sweet16 Apple IIgs Emulator. For local Apple II emulation on Mac OS X, the best one is Virtual ][ emulator and the individual disks. We recommend these emulators due to the amount of development that has gone into the programs. We also will soon be offering a complete download package of all disks. We also are expecting a Mac OS X compatible version of the emulator sometime soon Initial versions of the Mac version of the emulator are currently being tested in-house.
